Our History
Holy Spirit Orthodox Church was founded in 1984 by a small group of faithful Orthodox Christians in the Venice, Florida area. What began as a humble mission has grown, by God’s grace, into a vibrant parish community serving the spiritual needs of Orthodox Christians and seekers throughout Sarasota County and beyond.
For over 40 years, our parish has been a place of worship, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Through the prayers of our faithful clergy and parishioners, we have built not just a church building, but a true family in Christ.
Our Faith
Holy Spirit Orthodox Church is a parish of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), within the Diocese of the South. The Orthodox Church is the original Christian Church founded by Jesus Christ and His Apostles. We maintain the faith, worship, and practice handed down in an unbroken chain for over 2,000 years.
Our worship is centered on the Divine Liturgy, a service of beauty, reverence, and deep theological meaning. Through the sacraments, prayer, fasting, and the fellowship of the faithful, we seek to draw closer to God and to one another.
